Down and Out, Serena Williams graciously accepts defeat

By the same exact score that bounced her from the 2011 US Open Final, Serena Williams tastes bitter defeat at the hands of tricky Russian, Ekaterina Makarova by a scoreline of 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 16. I just watched clips of her interview – she accepts that 6 double faults and 37 unforced errors couldn’t have lead to an alternate result. All credit to her opponent and her honesty during her post-match interview. Three things I appreciated about the interview:

  1. She gave credit to her opponent
  2. She acknowledged that she was injured and tried to win
  3. She said she would be back and is anxious to return

I hope the other women in the draw seize this opportunity. I do believe Serena Williams will return to form and make this Olympic year memorable.
